Hello, my radiant listeners and fellow calm seekers. Welcome back to living the Levity Way. Wisdom meets science and healing always sparkles with humor. I'm your host, Dr. Sunshine, here to remind you that your calm isn't a luxury, it's your biology. And today's episode is all about the vagus nerve. The body's built in peacekeeper. It is a super highway between your brain and your organs carrying the signals that decide whether you feel safe and relaxed or stuck in fight or flight traffic. So buckle your seatbelt or maybe just loosen it because we are about to explore why calm is not a mood. It's a measurable frequency. So have you, have you ever noticed how one text message can send your entire body into panic mode, but one hug can melt everything away. That's your vagus nerve doing its thing. The mind body mediator, the biological version of wifi between your brain, heart, and gut when it's happy. Oh, well, you feel grounded, connected, and calm, and then it's frazzled. Well, you feel like a squirrel on an espresso.. So let's decode this fascinating nerve, or as I like to call it, your calm command center. The vagus nerve comes from the Latin Vegas, meaning wandering. It starts in your brainstem and travels down through your neck, chest, and abdomen, touching your heart, lungs, digestive system, and even your vocal cords. So research from the University of North Carolina shows that higher veil tone meaning a more flexible risk. Responsive Vagus nerve. It's linked to better emotion regulations, heart health and social connection. And Harvard Medical School studies have found that deep breathing. Oh yes. Humming, chanting, and gentle cold exposure. It can activate the vagus nerve, shifting your body from the sympathetic fight or flight to the parasympathetic rest and digest it. And another 2021 review in Frontiers and neuroscience confirmed that stimulating the vagus nerve improves resilience to stress, supports gut-brain communication, and even enhances neuroplasticity. Translation to that calm isn't something you achieve, it's actually something you activate. Your nervous system is electric, literally, and the frequency of it is 0.1. Earths the rhythm. Your heart, pre breath and brain synchronizes to when you are in coherence. That's your body's wifi signal for peace. Let's activate your vagus nerve right now with a little sunshine reset. Take a slow inhale through your nose for a count of four and exhale through your mouth for a count of six and make it a gentle sigh. Repeat this five times. Always have the exhale longer than the inhale. You can do this everywhere. There is no excuse. You're stressed, you are under pressure. Breathe to the nose in count of four and out Count of six. If you are in front of your boss or in a situation, step three, maybe get a little awkward, but if you are not in front of your boss or in public, or you know hum. Hum softly, like, Hmm. Yeah. I mean, it, it vibrates the vagus nerve we just talked about it, where it all go along, right? So it goes along on your throat and it's really helping to activate it. So as you hum, lay one hand on your heart and one on your belly, and imagine your body sinking. To the rhythm of calm, like waves returning to shore. Well, you just lowered cortisol, regulated your heartbeat, and literally tuned your nervous system, huh? That's my friend. Is biohacking the sunshine way soft, soulful, and scientifically sound. If this episode brought a little piece to your physiology, you will love the Lty Academy. It's full of guided meditations, acupressure points, brain body balancing tools, just a sign for you to help to regulate stress, anxiety, and overwhelm naturally. Peace is not absent of stress. It's the mastery of returning to yourself. The more you practice calm, the more your vagus nerve remembers it. So breathe deeply, hum often, and keep you inner frequency tuned to joy. I'm your Dr. Sunshine reminding you to breathe deeply, live fully, and shine endlessly. Until next time, stay radiant and regulated.
